Mateus Fernandes transferred to Tottenham for €99 million
Tottenham Hotspur completed the signing of Portuguese midfielder Mateus Fernandes from West Ham United for a reported €99 million, the most expensive purchase in the club’s history. The 22‑year‑old, who missed the World Cup, joins a Spurs squad that has already added Andrew Robertson and Marcos Senesi on free transfers and paid €60 million for Jan Paul van Hecke.
The move brings Fernandes’ total transfer spend to €166 million. He moved from Sporting CP to Southampton for €15 million in the summer of 2024, then to West Ham for €52 million, before Tottenham’s record fee. The deal makes him the third‑most costly Portuguese player ever, after João Félix (€127.2 million) and Cristiano Ronaldo (€117 million).
