Mateusz Bieniek withdraws from Polish national volleyball team due to injury

Polish volleyball player Mateusz Bieniek has decided to step away from the national team for the current season to focus on treating spinal disc herniations. The 32-year-old middle blocker, who plays for Aluron CMC Warta Zawiercie, cited the physical toll of a demanding club season involving 50 matches as the primary reason for his medical leave.

Bieniek revealed that his decision followed a transparent discussion with national team coach Nikola Grbić. The player expressed gratitude toward Grbić, stating that the coach showed full understanding of the need for extended rehabilitation. Bieniek noted that while the condition is not currently requiring surgery, the pain has been significant, affecting even routine daily activities.

His rehabilitation program includes physiotherapy, muscle strengthening, and medical injections to manage pain. While Bieniek expressed a strong desire to return to the national team in the future, his immediate priority is regaining full physical health before the upcoming club season begins in late August.
