Mateusz Bąk, Lechia Gdańsk football symbol, funeral held in Pruszcz Gdański

Funeral services for Mateusz Bąk, a former goalkeeper and symbol of the Lechia Gdańsk football club, were held on August 10, 2026, in Pruszcz Gdański. Bąk passed away at the age of 43, though the cause of death has not been publicly disclosed.

Minister Mateusz Kotecki attended the ceremony to read a letter on behalf of President Karol Nawrocki. In the letter, the President described Bąk as a person who left a lasting mark on the lives of the people of Gdańsk and the club's supporters. Bąk was noted for his long-standing loyalty to the club, having progressed with the team from the A-class league to the Ekstraklasa.

At the request of the family, mourners were asked to bring a single white rose instead of traditional wreaths. The ceremony took place at the Communal Cemetery in Pruszcz Gdański.
