Mateusz Lorek appointed president of Bychawa municipal company

Mateusz Lorek, the son of Law and Justice (PiS) Member of Parliament Grzegorz Lorek, has been appointed president of Bychawskie Przedsiębiorstwo Komunalne (BPK), a municipal company in Bychawa. According to reports from Radio Zet, Lorek joined the company in June 2024 as vice president at age 27 and was promoted to president in December 2024.

Financial disclosures indicate that Lorek earned over 163,000 PLN gross in 2025. The appointment was facilitated by Bychawa Mayor Marta Krzyżak, a member of PiS. Local authorities, including Vice Mayor Łukasz Grabczyński, have defended the decision, stating that Lorek met the necessary qualifications and that his age and family connections were not decisive factors.

Questions have also been raised regarding Lorek's background. In 2017, he was involved in a traffic accident that injured 10 people, resulting in a suspended prison sentence. He reportedly provided a certificate of no criminal record during his recruitment, which was possible because the court downgraded the charge to a non-intentional offense.
