Mateusz Wieteska poised to join Wieczysta Kraków after injury
Polish centre‑back Mateusz Wieteska, 29, is expected to leave Serie A side Cagliari and sign for newly promoted Ekstraklasa club Wieczysta Kraków. The 2027‑expiring contract with Cagliari will be terminated and the move hinges on medical examinations scheduled by Wieczysta.
Wieteska spent the 2025 season on loan at Turkish club Kocaelispor, where he suffered an anterior cruciate ligament rupture and meniscus damage after just 22 minutes of play. Prior to the injury he had accumulated 149 appearances for Legia Warsaw, scoring eight goals, winning three Polish championships and serving as captain. He earned six caps for Poland and was selected for the 2022 World Cup squad.
His recent career moves include a €1.3 million transfer to Clermont in 2022 and a €5 million deal to Cagliari the following year. The financial terms of the Wieczysta deal have not been disclosed, but the club, backed by businessman Wojciech Kwietnia, is prepared to offer a one‑year contract with an option to extend.
