Mathias Vacek climbs to third overall after fourth Tour de France stage

Norwegian Torstein Träen took the yellow jersey after the fourth stage of the Tour de France, which ran 181.9 km from Carcassonne to Foix in scorching weather. Czech rider Mathias Vacek, riding for Lidl‑Trek, moved up to third place in the general classification, 3 minutes 50 seconds behind Träen. He also secured the white jersey as the best young rider.

Vacek was part of a ten‑man breakaway that stayed ahead of the peloton for most of the day. He finished tenth on the stage, helping teammate Madis Pedersen claim the stage win. The podium was completed by Quinn Simmons (second) and Javier García (third). Former leader Tadej Pogačar dropped to fourth, with Jonas Vingegaard fifth.

The race will continue with a mostly flat fifth stage from Lannemezan to Pau, where a sprint finish is expected.
