Mathieu Kassovitz and film legends to attend Budapest film marathon

The Budapest Classical Film Marathon (BKFM) will take place from September 15 to 20, featuring several prominent figures in international cinema. The festival, organized by the National Film Institute, expects approximately one hundred screenings.

French director, actor, and producer Mathieu Kassovitz will be a major guest. The festival will showcase his versatile career through six films, including ‘La Haine’, ‘Amélie’, and ‘A la folie... Pas question!’. Kassovitz has Hungarian roots; his father, Peter Kassovitz, was a director who emigrated to France in 1956, and his grandfather, Félix Kassowitz, was a pioneer of Hungarian animation.

Other distinguished guests include legendary Iranian director Mohsen Makhmalbaf, known for his works addressing social and human rights issues, and acclaimed Polish cinematographer Pawel Edelman, an Oscar nominee. The event will include film screenings, audience meet-and-greets, masterclasses, and workshops across various venues in Budapest, such as Urania, Toldi mozi, and Art+ Cinema.
