Mathis Beaulieu places seventh in Rio triathlon as Emilien Jacquelin eyes pro cycling debut

Canadian triathlete Mathis Beaulieu recovered from a disastrous swim in Rio, Brazil, to finish seventh in the World Triathlon World Cup sprint race, posting a time of 51:27 and staying within 31 seconds of winner Braxton Legg. Despite losing his goggles early and battling a knee injury, Beaulieu’s strong run secured valuable Olympic qualification points.

French biathlete Emilien Jacquelin, the 2022 Olympic relay champion, will make his first professional road‑cycling start at the Polynormande on 16 August. Transitioning from biathlon to cycling, Jacquelin joins the Groupama‑FDJ development squad and aims to compete alongside French champion Paul Lapeira and other WorldTour riders.
