Matias Fernandez-Pardo leads Premier League sprint statistics

Newcastle United forward Matias Fernandez-Pardo recorded the highest number of sprints in the Premier League during the recent weekend, completing 28 during his team’s 2-1 victory over Hull City.

The 21-year-old Belgian, who joined Newcastle from Lille on deadline day for £51 million, has been utilized by manager Matthias Jaissle to implement a high-intensity pressing style. Despite having no full pre-season, Fernandez-Pardo’s physical output was noted by the club and the manager. Jaissle praised the player’s work out of possession, stating that his ability to stress the opposition provided the team with the confidence to win second balls and maintain higher possession.

While his role on the pitch continues to be refined, with the player expressing a preference for central positions, his speed and movement have already become key components of Newcastle’s aggressive tactical approach.
