Matica Makedonska celebrates 35 years of publishing

Matica Makedonska, the first publishing house of independent North Macedonia, marks its 35th anniversary on August 24. Founded on August 24, 1991, by poet and literary critic Rade Siljan, the institution was established just fifteen days before the historic September 8 referendum for independence.

Over three and a half decades, the publisher has played a central role in strengthening the Macedonian language, literature, history, and culture. Its extensive catalog includes over 3,000 titles with more than six million copies published, covering diverse fields such as philology, ethnology, archaeology, and art history.
