Matica Makedonska releases jubilee edition of Aco Shopov’s poetry

To mark its 35th anniversary, Matica Makedonska has released a jubilee edition titled ‘Vetrot nosi ubavo vreme’ (The Wind Brings Good Weather) by Aco Shopov, a founding figure of modern Macedonian literature.

The volume consolidates three significant poetic works published between 1952 and 1957: ‘Stihovi za makata i radosta’ (1952), ‘Slej se so tishinata’ (1955), and ‘Vetrot nosi ubavo vreme’ (1957). These works represent a critical period of creative maturation in Macedonian poetry, tracing Shopov’s evolution from intimate, subjective expression to a complex, modern poetic style addressing existential themes such as love, loss, and the human search for meaning.

The edition includes a critical analysis by academic Georgi Stardelov titled ‘Sè na eden i ist glas – ili Za intimnata lirika na Aco Shopov’, which examines the poet’s evolution and his impact on Macedonian literature. The book also features biographical notes and an extensive bibliographic overview of Shopov’s poetry both in Macedonia and internationally.
