Matildas defeat Haiti 7-1 in dominant international performance
The Matildas secured a dominant 7-1 victory over Haiti in Chambly, France, during the October international window. The win serves as a significant rebound for Australia following a recent 4-2 loss to Germany.
Leticia McKenna was a standout performer, scoring two goals in her first start for the national team. Other goals were contributed by Caitlin Foord, Daniela Galic, Clare Wheeler, and Holly McNamara, while a Kethna Louis own goal added to the tally. Haiti’s lone goal was scored by Melchie Dumornay shortly after Australia took the lead.
Head coach Joe Montemurro implemented several changes to the squad, including the absence of Steph Catley due to load management. Despite early defensive lapses that allowed Haiti to equalize, the Matildas dominated the second half. The result helps Australia maintain its world ranking of No. 15 as they continue preparations for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
