Matki Pingwinów returns for second season

The acclaimed Polish series ‘Matki Pingwinów’ is set to premiere its second season on October 21. Following the success of the first season, which earned accolades including an Orzeł award and a spot on The New York Times' list of most interesting foreign series of 2024, the new episodes shift focus from initial diagnosis acceptance to the ongoing realities of neurodiverse parenting.

Set eighteen months after the first season's finale, the story follows characters Kama, Ula, Tatiana, and Jerzy as they establish ‘Biegun Szczęścia’, a school intended to be a safe haven for their children. However, the institution quickly faces challenges involving bureaucracy, financial difficulties, and emotional exhaustion. The new season also explores themes of fatherhood and the challenges of children growing up.

A special pre-release screening and panel discussion were held in Warsaw, featuring creators Klara Kochańska-Bajon and Jagoda Szelc, alongside cast members such as Masza Wągrocka, Barbara Wypych, and Tomasz Tyndyk. The production aims to promote tolerance and authenticity by depicting the daily lives of families raising children with special needs without dividing the world into those with and without disabilities.
