Matko Vekić opens new exhibition in Dubrovnik
Contemporary Croatian painter Matko Vekić has opened a new exhibition titled ‘Resort bez signala’ (Resort Without Signal) at the Dubrovnik Art Gallery. Organized in collaboration with the Split Art Gallery, the exhibition is scheduled to be showcased in Split in 2027.
The new series, featuring works created between 2025 and 2026, explores Mediterranean spaces that exist outside the reach of networks and signals. Vekić uses themes of unfinished, artificial, and plastic constructions to depict a transitional state of being. His work highlights the devastation of ecosystems through imagery of abandoned fences, half-finished walls, empty pools, and accumulated waste, creating a modern patina of time.
The exhibition also includes previous series created between 2020 and 2025, such as ‘Arhipelag’, ‘Stablo u otoku’, ‘Naplavine’, ‘Postojanje u otoku’, and ‘Vedrina’. These earlier works serve as an ode to nature, characterized by a microscopic examination of the environment and the technical possibilities of the painting medium.
