Mato Grosso and Goiás Soybean Producers Boost Nematode Management

Soybean growers in Brazil's Mato Grosso and Goiás states are confronting a sharp rise in nematode infestations. The increased pressure from the parasites has led producers to expand the use of resistant cultivars, seed treatments and integrated pest‑management practices.

According to agronomist and regional marketing manager Gustavo Corsini, the area treated with nematicides has grown by about 50 % in recent years, and the two states are now leading the adoption of resistant varieties. The Brazilian Society of Nematology estimates nematodes cause roughly R$ 35 billion in annual agricultural losses, with about R$ 16.2 billion attributed to soybean alone. Early‑season management is being emphasized to protect yields and profitability.

The shift reflects growing awareness among farmers that proactive control—before damage becomes evident—can mitigate yield losses, reduce secondary fungal infections, and safeguard the substantial investment in soybean cultivation.
