Mato Grosso authorities identify man killed in river boat shipwreck

Authorities in Mato Grosso have identified 28-year-old Elvis da Silva Oliveira as the victim of a boat shipwreck on the São Lourenço River in Juscimeira. The incident occurred on Sunday when Oliveira, the owner and pilot of the vessel, reportedly made a maneuver error while traveling with two other passengers.

While the other two occupants managed to swim to shore, Oliveira, who could not swim, sank. Investigators noted that none of the three individuals on board were wearing life jackets, and Oliveira did not possess an amateur boating license. His body was recovered by firefighters on Monday afternoon at a location known as Poço do Joãozinho and has been sent to the Medical Legal Institute in Rondonópolis for forensic procedures.
