Brazil municipalities adjust October holiday schedules

Various Brazilian municipalities and state governments are adjusting administrative and school calendars for October 2026.

Several cities, including Caraguatatuba, Apucarana, and Videira, have scheduled school recesses or moved Teacher's Day observances to Tuesday, October 13. This follows the national holiday for Our Lady of Aparecida on Monday, October 12, creating extended breaks for students and educators. While Teacher's Day is officially October 15, these local adjustments aim to align with existing school calendars or provide continuous rest for staff.

Regarding Public Servant Day, several administrations are shifting the optional holiday (ponto facultativo) to Friday, October 30. This change has been implemented in Mato Grosso do Sul, Alta Floresta, and Videira to create a long weekend through the national holiday on November 2. These shifts are intended to improve administrative efficiency by avoiding fragmented work weeks.
