Mato Grosso authorities uncover electricity theft in multi-city operation

The ‘Operação Energia Limpa’ task force uncovered multiple instances of electricity theft across Rondonópolis, Primavera do Leste, and Cuiabá in Mato Grosso. The operation involved Energisa Mato Grosso, the Civil Police, and Politec.

In Rondonópolis, authorities discovered a restaurant using a direct connection to the distribution network to bypass metering. A separate investigation was launched into a local pub where the meter had been removed and replaced with a direct connection. In Primavera do Leste, a large pizzeria was found using a magnetic device on its meter to interfere with consumption recording, and a nightclub was found connected directly to the grid without any metering.

In the Morada da Serra region of Cuiabá, a beauty salon and a motorcycle workshop were also caught using direct connections to the power grid. Four individuals were taken into police custody to face charges related to the crimes.
