Mato Grosso beef exports surge 2,242% over 25 years
Mato Grosso has solidified its position as Brazil’s largest beef producer, following 25 years of certification by the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH) as free from foot-and-mouth disease with vaccination.
Comparing 2001 to the first nine months of 2026, the state’s beef export volume grew by 2,242%, rising from 24,100 tons to 566,500 tons. This growth has driven export revenues from US$ 47.5 million in 2001 to US$ 3.4 billion.
In 2001, the state exported to 29 countries, with Egypt serving as the primary buyer at 40.7% of total volume. The sector's evolution is attributed to the transition from extensive grazing to intensive production systems involving genetic improvement, pasture recovery, and advanced nutritional supplementation.
