Mato Grosso, Brazil expands education access with neurodiversity week and new university slots

The city of Barra do Bugres in Mato Grosso opened the fourth Neurodiversity Week at the State University of Mato Grosso's auditorium, gathering almost 400 professionals, families and municipal officials. The event, coordinated by the municipal councilwoman Cleide Rodregues and the mayor Azenilda Pereira, highlighted the growth of special‑education services since 2022, including the creation of the NAMEI support center and dedicated classrooms for 150 children with neurodevelopmental disorders.

At the same time, the Federal University of Mato Grosso (UFMT) announced 1,803 remaining seats for undergraduate programmes across its campuses in Cuiabá, Araguaia, Sinop and Várzea Grande. The vacancies, available to candidates who took any ENEM exam between 2016 and 2025, cover a wide range of courses such as Medicine, Law, Psychology, Journalism, Nursing, Engineering, Computer Science and Agronomy. Selection follows the highest ENEM score, with ties broken by essay grade and family income. Successful applicants will begin their studies in the second semester of 2026, providing new opportunities for higher‑education access in the region.
