Mato Grosso: Legal actions against Energisa and highway concession suspension
Various legal and administrative developments are occurring in Mato Grosso. The Public Ministry of Mato Grosso (MPMT) has launched an investigation into Energisa Mato Grosso regarding electricity supply failures in Sorriso. The inquiry follows reports of voltage fluctuations, blackouts, and economic damage to local businesses, as well as a fatal transformer explosion in September 2026.
In fiscal matters, the Court of Accounts of Mato Grosso (TCE-MT) has issued new guidelines for municipal administration. The Court ruled that the duodécimo (legislative budget transfers) for municipal chambers must be calculated using gross values of tax revenues and constitutional transfers, without deducting Fundeb funds. Additionally, the TCE-MT has urged municipalities to accelerate the recovery of ISSQN tax credits to maximize revenue before the transition to the new IBS tax system.
Regarding infrastructure, a court decision has suspended a major highway concession contract for 634 km of roads in the state, valued at over R$ 10 billion, due to a dispute over bidding eligibility. Furthermore, the Superior Court of Justice (STJ) annulled evidence in a Mato Grosso criminal case, ruling that routine traffic stops do not justify exploratory searches without founded suspicion.
