Mato Grosso deputies question voting security and federal economic policy
Re-elected state deputies in Mato Grosso, Gilberto Cattani and Faissal Calil, have voiced criticisms regarding the Brazilian political and electoral landscape.
Gilberto Cattani (PL) questioned the reliability of electronic voting machines, citing power outages during the first round of elections as a reason for doubt. While he stated he has the right to question the system and noted the heavy fines faced by those who contest election results, he did not provide evidence of fraud or a link between the outages and the vote count.
Faissal Calil (PL) criticized the economic impact of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva’s administration. Calil argued that the belief that low-income voters benefit from PT leadership is an “illusion,” claiming that increased public debt and taxes negatively affect the most vulnerable populations. He advocated for a shift toward conservative leadership as part of the Liberal Party's strategy in the state.
