Mato Grosso do Sul confirms eight candidates for 2026 governorship
Following the conclusion of party conventions, the candidates for the 2026 elections in Mato Grosso do Sul have been defined. The race for the state government features eight confirmed candidates, matching the number from the previous election.
The candidates for governor include current governor Eduardo Riedel (PP), Delcídio do Amaral (PRD), Daniel Lemes (PCO), Fábio Trad (PT), Jeferson Bezerra (Agir), João Henrique Catan (Novo), Lucien Rezende (PSOL), and Renato Gomes (DC).
Profiles include Eduardo Riedel, a businessman seeking reelection with Barbosinha as his vice-gubernatorial candidate, and Daniel Lemes, a Guarani-Kaiowá indigenous leader and teacher. Delcídio do Amaral, a former senator, is running with Francisca Esmeralda Ajala as his vice-gubernatorial candidate.
Political parties have until August 15 to officially register these candidacies with the Superior Electoral Court (TSE). The first round of voting is scheduled for October 4, with a second round for the governorship occurring on October 25 if necessary. Additionally, ten candidates are expected to compete for the two Senate seats.
