Mato Grosso do Sul economy to see R$ 491 million boost from Children's Day
Children's Day is projected to inject R$ 491.29 million into the economy of Mato Grosso do Sul in 2026, marking a 33% increase compared to the previous year. According to a consumer intention survey conducted by Sebrae/MS, Sistema Comércio MS, and the Institute of Research and Development (IPF-MS), the average consumer is expected to spend R$ 568.90 on gifts and celebrations.
Of the total amount, R$ 276.87 million is expected to be spent on gifts, with toys being the top preference for 72% of consumers. Footwear, including sneakers and cleats, follows at 17%. The survey indicates that children will have significant influence, with 53.94% of respondents stating the child will be responsible for the choice. The primary recipients are children (48.54%), followed by nephews/nieces (27.13%) and grandchildren (23.06%).
Celebrations are expected to account for R$ 214.42 million. Regarding shopping habits, 67.34% of consumers intend to shop at physical stores in central regions, while 17.73% prefer neighborhood commerce. Discounts for cash payments are the main driver for 66.26% of shoppers, and Pix is the leading payment method at 39.45%, followed by installment credit cards (20.71%) and cash (19.7%).
