Mato Grosso do Sul: Ethanol more cost-effective than gasoline

A recent survey conducted between August 16 and 22 indicates that ethanol is more cost-effective than gasoline in five cities across Mato Grosso do Sul. In all surveyed municipalities, the average price of ethanol remained below 70% of the price of common gasoline, a key benchmark for flex-fuel vehicle drivers.

Ponta Porã showed the greatest advantage, with ethanol averaging R$ 3.87 compared to R$ 6.74 for gasoline, representing 57.4% of the gasoline price. Três Lagoas followed with an ethanol-to-gasoline ratio of approximately 58%. In the capital, Campo Grande, ethanol averaged R$ 3.78 against R$ 6.25 for gasoline, a ratio of 60.5%.

Dourados reported an ethanol price of R$ 4.19 and gasoline at R$ 6.70, a 62.5% ratio. Corumbá saw the smallest margin, with ethanol at R$ 4.91 and gasoline at R$ 7.09, placing the biofuel at 69.3% of the gasoline cost, just below the 70% threshold.
