Mato Grosso do Sul expands full-time education initiative

The state government of Mato Grosso do Sul is pursuing increased cooperation with municipalities to expand full-time education starting from early childhood. Under the administration of Governor Eduardo Riedel, the strategy aims to utilize the ‘MS Alfabetiza’ framework to increase available spots, support local governments, and ensure that extended school hours translate into meaningful learning and improved routines for families.

Silvia Freire, president of the Union of Municipal Education Directors of Mato Grosso do Sul (Undime-MS), emphasized that the expansion must focus on quality and learning opportunities rather than just increasing time spent in school. The initiative seeks to address challenges faced by working families, particularly by providing more reliable childcare and preschool options to alleviate the burden often placed on women.
