Campo Grande issues yellow storm alert as heavy rain and strong winds approach

The Coordenadoria de Proteção e Defesa Civil of Campo Grande issued a yellow alert for storm risk with intense winds from Saturday night (23:00) through Sunday (22:59). The alert, based on an Inmet forecast, predicts rainfall of 20‑30 mm per hour, potentially reaching 50 mm in a day, and wind gusts of 40‑60 km/h. The agency warned of a low risk of power outages, fallen branches, localized flooding and tree falls.

The alert covers Campo Grande and 77 other municipalities in Mato Grosso do Sul, placing the state under a potential danger warning. Residents are advised to avoid sheltering under trees, keep away from power lines and transmission towers, refrain from using plugged‑in electronic devices during the storm, and contact Defesa Civil (199) or 156) or the fire department (193) if needed. A cold front is expected to lower temperatures to a maximum of 25 °C and a minimum of 19 °C.

The warning aims to reduce injuries and property damage as the region experiences the anticipated heavy rain, strong winds and possible hail.
