Campo Grande hosts 19th Indigenous Urban Games

Campo Grande is hosting the 19th edition of the Indigenous Urban Games, a major sporting and cultural event in Mato Grosso do Sul. The weekend program includes an official opening ceremony at Morada dos Baís and athletic competitions at Parque do Sóter.

Approximately 500 participants from 21 different indigenous communities are expected to compete in 10 modalities, including archery, athletics, tug-of-war, futsal, football, spear throwing, and volleyball. The event, organized by the Municipal Sports Foundation (Funesp) and the Subsecretariat for the Defense of Human Rights, aims to use sport as a tool for social inclusion, integration, and the preservation of indigenous traditions.

Beyond the competitions, the event serves as a cultural gathering, featuring traditional craft exhibitions and a parade for the Indigenous Boy and Girl. Organizers anticipate a total attendance of around 3,000 people, including athletes, families, and the general public.
