Mato Grosso do Sul installs R$1.9 million surgical microscope at regional hospital

The government of Brazil's Mato Grosso do Sul state has provided a high‑technology surgical microscope, valued at roughly R$1.9 million, to the Hospital Regional da Costa Leste Magid Thomé (HRCLMT). The equipment expands the hospital's ability to perform complex neuro‑ and otolaryngology microsurgeries, such as intracranial tumor removal, cerebral vascular procedures, skull‑base interventions, and spine surgeries with magnification.

Superintendent of Hospital Governance Edson da Mata said the microscope “represents an important advance for the Hospital Regional da Costa Leste, a high‑precision technology that expands the unit’s capacity for complex procedures with greater safety and efficiency,” and noted that the addition should reduce patient referrals to distant centers while improving regional health access.
