Lucas do Rio Verde Opens New Women’s Police Station and State School

On 2 July 2024 the government of Mato Grosso inaugurated two major public facilities in the fast‑growing municipality of Lucas do Rio Verde. The Specialized Women’s Defense Police Station (DEDM), placed in the Jardim das Palmeiras neighbourhood, opened in a building provided by the city and was equipped with reception areas, specialized interview rooms, a children’s playroom, accessible facilities and furniture supplied by the Civil Police. Governor Otaviano Pivetta, mayor Miguel Vaz and local officials highlighted that the unit will offer humane, rapid assistance to women, children and elders affected by gender‑based violence and strengthen the state’s protection network. In the same ceremony the Luiz Carlos Ceconello State School was delivered. The modern school, built at a cost of more than R$ 12 million, includes 18 classrooms, a covered sports court, cafeteria, accessibility features and can serve up to 630 students per shift. Pivetta said, “Each quality school we inaugurate is an opportunity to transform lives and prevent violence.” Both projects are part of the governor’s strategy to combine security and education investments in Lucas do Rio Verde.
