Mato Grosso do Sul records 441,000 lightning strikes

Mato Grosso do Sul recorded approximately 441,000 lightning strikes between Monday night and Tuesday morning due to a new wave of atmospheric instability. In the capital, Campo Grande, 12,021 lightning strikes were documented within an eight-hour window.

The storms brought wind gusts exceeding 80 km/h to various municipalities and a drop in temperature following a period of intense heat. The National Institute of Meteorology has issued an orange alert, forecasting rainfall volumes between 30 and 60 mm per hour, or up to 100 mm throughout the day. Potential hazards include winds of 60 to 100 km/h, hail, flooding, falling trees, and power outages.
