Mato Grosso do Sul redirects R$ 10.3 million to orthopedic surgeries

The Mato Grosso do Sul State Health Secretariat (SES) has redirected R$ 10.3 million from elective cardiac surgery funds to orthopedic procedures. The funds, originally allocated for the Magid Thomé Regional Hospital in Três Lagoas, will now be transferred to the Dourados Regional Hospital.

According to a resolution by the Bipartite Inter-manager Commission (CIB), the reallocation is due to low demand for elective cardiac procedures in Três Lagoas, where cardiology services are primarily focused on urgent and emergency cases. Conversely, Dourados faces a significant backlog of orthopedic surgeries and possesses the operational capacity to handle increased volume.

The transfer specifically targets elective procedures and will not impact emergency or urgent cardiac care in Três Lagoas. The Dourados Regional Hospital has been granted temporary authorization to receive these funds under the federal 'Agora Tem Especialistas' program to expand specialized services through the Unified Health System (SUS).
