Mato Grosso do Sul sanitation and health initiatives drive regional development
In Mato Grosso do Sul, sanitation expansion and integrated health initiatives are expected to drive significant regional development. A study by Instituto Trata Brasil and Ex Ante Consultoria Econômica estimates that universalizing sanitation services could generate R$ 2.25 billion in additional tourism income for the state between 2025 and 2040. The report highlights how improved water and sewage infrastructure impacts economic productivity, real estate value, and environmental preservation.
Simultaneously, the ‘Saúde Pantaneira’ project has resumed operations to address healthcare accessibility challenges in the Pantanal region. Coordinated by professors from the Federal University of Mato Grosso do Sul (UFMS), the initiative deploys multidisciplinary teams to remote communities where geographic and logistical barriers often prevent regular medical care. The project integrates academic training with the Unified Health System (SUS) to provide essential services to populations in hard-to-reach areas.
