University of Mato Grosso do Sul issues Elder Rights Commitment
The University of Mato Grosso do Sul's University of Maturity (UMA/UEMS) carried out a series of activities from 8–15 June 2026 as part of the “Junho Prata” (June Silver) campaign aimed at raising awareness, preventing and confronting violence against older people. During the campaign, students drafted the “Carta de Compromisso da Pessoa Idosa” (Elder Commitment Letter), outlining proposals on health, housing, mobility, accessibility, security, education, culture, social assistance and the expansion of public policies for ageing.
The letter was presented alongside the IX Seminar on Violence against Older Persons held at the State Legislative Assembly of Mato Grosso do Sul (ALEMS). The seminar gathered public institutions, legal professionals, researchers and NGOs to discuss the protection of elders’ rights and to strengthen policies supporting active ageing, lifelong education, citizen participation, respect and quality of life for older citizens.
