Mato Grosso doctors demand better working conditions and pay
Medical professionals in Mato Grosso, Brazil, are calling for improved working conditions, fair compensation, and professional respect. The Sindimed-MT union highlights several systemic issues facing doctors in the region, including the need to work multiple shifts across different cities to meet financial needs and the prevalence of legal entity (PJ) contracts that lack labor security and retirement prospects.
Specific grievances include inadequate rest areas, physical and emotional exhaustion, and difficulties in securing maternity rights. In Várzea Grande, a municipal law has proposed using biometrics and geolocation to monitor doctors. In Cuiabá, despite a judicial commitment to hold public exams, many doctors from reserve lists are still awaiting summons while outsourcing and temporary selection processes continue.
The union reports a lack of dialogue from public managers, including the Mayor of Cuiabá, Abilio Brunini, regarding the proposed Career, Positions, and Salaries Plan (PCCS). State and municipal governments have also reportedly declined to meet with the union to discuss career advancement and remuneration.
