Mato Grosso audits temporary teacher hires and expands health‑sector governance

The 8th Civil Public Prosecutor's Office in Cuiabá opened three civil inquiries to examine the use of temporary contracts for education professionals in Mato Grosso's state network and the municipalities of Cuiabá and Acorizal. The probe seeks information on public contests, the National Teacher Exam (PND) and the proportion of temporary staff, noting that in some state networks more than 70% of teachers lack permanent positions.

At the Hospital Regional de Cáceres, a technical visit by the State Court of Auditors (TCE‑MT) reported a 32% increase in staff, rising from 744 to 1,096 workers under CLT contracts with the management firm Agir. The new model cut monthly operating costs from R$ 23.8 million to R$ 18.5 million and plans to raise bed capacity from 294 to 320, while expanding surgical capacity by 10‑15%.

From 23 to 25 June, TCE‑MT held a three‑day training titled “Strengthening Control in Health: Governance and Monitoring of Plans,” teaching municipal health councils how to use the national health‑plan monitoring panel developed by TCE‑ES. The program targets mayors, health secretaries and council members to improve oversight of SUS resources.

During the VII Regional Seminar of the Union of Municipal Education Councils, TCE‑MT councilor Antonio Joaquim urged municipalities to regularize and empower their education councils, warning that inactive bodies weaken social participation. The tribunal has issued a technical note recommending corrective measures and may impose sanctions for non‑compliance.
