Mato Grosso enacts new laws for elderly and Down Syndrome support
The state of Mato Grosso has implemented new legislative measures aimed at improving social inclusion and accessibility for specific demographics.
Governor Otaviano Pivetta sanctioned Law No. 13.520, authored by State Deputy Chico Guarnieri, which mandates reserved spaces with appropriate seating for elderly citizens at cultural events. This law applies to both public and private events that receive public funding or support. The regulation requires that these areas be easily accessible, located near the main stage, and clearly signaled to ensure comfort and mobility for the elderly.
Additionally, the Mato Grosso Legislative Assembly approved a bill proposed by Deputy Thiago Silva to create the ‘Maralise Farias Pinto Pacheco’ State Support Network for individuals with Down Syndrome. The initiative seeks to integrate health, education, and social assistance services. The network aims to provide psychological, pedagogical, and legal support to individuals and their families, while promoting inclusion in schools and the labor market and combating prejudice.
