Mato Grosso government signs R$ 15 million for Shopping Popular reconstruction
The Government of Mato Grosso has signed a contract to provide R$ 15 million in financing for the reconstruction of the Shopping Popular in Cuiabá. The funds, managed through Desenvolve MT using resources from the Economic Development Fund (Fundes), are intended to rebuild the structure destroyed by a fire in July 2024, as well as to modernize the commercial center and acquire new equipment.
The financing was authorized by Project Law No. 481/2026, which was approved by the Mato Grosso Legislative Assembly in April. The terms include interest rates set at IPCA plus 2% per year, a grace period of up to two years before payments begin, and a total repayment term of up to five years. As a guarantee for the operation, the Association of Shopkeepers and Street Vendors of the Shopping Popular will cede its revenues, including condominium fees paid by merchants.
Governor Otaviano Pivetta noted that the reconstruction addresses a critical demand from local merchants following the fire. Misael Oliveira Galvão, president of the shopkeepers' association, highlighted that the center generates over 10,000 jobs and marked a historic moment as a small business association securing such a credit line.
