Governor Otaviano Pivetta names Judge José Zuquim Nogueira interim governor of Mato Grosso

On 16 June, Governor Otaviano Pivetta transferred the executive authority of the state of Mato Grosso to the president of the state Court of Justice, Judge José Zuquim Nogueira, in a ceremony at the Palácio Paiaguás. Zuquim will serve as interim governor until 19 June while Pivetta travels to Rio Grande do Sul to attend his 96‑year‑old father's birthday.

Pivetta said the hand‑over is “a gesture of courtesy to one of the State’s constitutional powers” and praised Zuquim as “a magistrate of integrity and cordiality.” Zuquim thanked the governor and pledged to govern “with great care and affection, because I love this land.” The ceremony was attended by the president of the Legislative Assembly, the state deputy, the attorney‑general and other senior officials.

Zuquim’s interim term is limited to three days, after which the governor will resume duties.
