Mato Grosso healthcare program completes 872,000 procedures

The Mato Grosso government’s ‘Fila Zero na Cirurgia’ program has reached a milestone of 872,642 procedures completed as of October 5, 2026. Launched in April 2023, the initiative has invested R$ 351 million to address backlogs in the Unified Health System (SUS).

The total volume of services includes 119,749 elective surgeries, 275,036 specialized consultations, and 477,857 diagnostic exams. According to State Health Secretary Juliano Melo, the program has successfully reduced the average waiting time for procedures from 77 days to 22 days, representing a 72% decrease.

Key surgical procedures performed include cataract surgeries, pterygium removal, and gallbladder removals. Major diagnostic services included CT scans and MRIs. The program operates through partnerships with municipalities and health consortia to provide care in regional hubs, reducing the need for patients to travel to the capital.
