Mato Grosso implements registry for rape convicts
Mato Grosso has implemented Law No. 13.463/2026, which establishes a State Registry of Persons Convicted of Rape. Published in the State Official Gazette on June 24, 2026, the law mandates that individuals with final, non-appealable sentences for this crime be included in the database.
Under this new regulation, convicted individuals are prohibited from holding public office within the state administration. The registry will collect specific data, including names, CPF numbers, dates of birth, photographs, physical characteristics, fingerprints, DNA, and the specific criminal classification of the offense.
The State Secretariat of Public Security (Sesp-MT) is responsible for the regulation, updating, and management of the registry, with the intention of making the system available via the secretariat's website. The initiative aims to strengthen sexual violence prevention and assist security agencies in planning public policies through better access to qualified information. The system may utilize mechanisms from the Penal Execution Law and integrate with the National Network of Information on Public Security, Justice, and Inspection (InfoSeg) maintained by the Ministry of Justice.
