Mato Grosso Justice Expedition Brings Health and Social Services to Border Communities

The second edition of the Expedição Justiça Sem Fronteiras arrived in the remote district of Santa Clara de Monte Cristo, Mato Grosso, to provide a suite of citizenship, health, legal and social assistance services. Organized by the Mato Grosso State Judiciary’s Justice Community program, the mobile brigade offered consultations with cardiologists, dermatologists, general physicians and ophthalmologists, vaccinations, ultrasound exams, dental care, medication dispensing, SUS card issuance, retirement filing with INSS, Bolsa Família registration and other benefits. Residents described the impact, with 101‑year‑old Mediocyr Borges Barcelo saying, “It was great. I’ve never been treated so well,” and 68‑year‑old Francisco Surubi noting the difficulty of obtaining care without the expedition. Local officials highlighted the initiative’s role in serving roughly 4,500 inhabitants of the Brazil‑Bolivia border region. After Santa Clara, the expedition will continue to Vila Picada in Porto Esperidião for a final two‑day stop.
