Mato Grosso kicks off statewide school environmental education program

The Escola Superior da Magistratura de Mato Grosso (Esmagis-MT), through the Centro de Estudos Integrados em Meio Ambiente (Cesima), will launch the "Cesima nas Escolas: Meio Ambiente, Clima e Futuro – Responsabilidade de Todos" program on 29 July. The initiative will run from July 2026 to June 2027 and target public schools in the municipalities of Cuiabá, Vármesa Grande, Santo Antônio de Leverger and Chapada dos Guimarães.

Coordinated by judge Henriqueta Fernanda Chaves Alencar Ferreira Lima, the project aims to raise climate‑change awareness, promote ecological citizenship and foster sustainable practices among children and adolescents. Partners include the Tribunal de Justiça de Mato Grosso, the state Public Ministry, the Public Defender’s Office, the 23rd Regional Labor Court, UFMT, UNEMAT, the State Environment Secretariat, Ibama, Incra, the local OAB chapter and several agribusiness organisations. Lectures and workshops will be adapted to different age groups, covering topics such as deforestation, water management, biodiversity and personal actions to mitigate environmental impact.
