Mato Grosso Labor and Electoral Authorities Sign Pact to Combat Election Harassment and Child Labor

The Ministry of Labor's Public Prosecutor's Office (MPT) in Mato Grosso and the state's Regional Electoral Court (TRE‑MT) signed a technical cooperation agreement on 6 April to prevent electoral harassment and child labor ahead of Brazil's 2026 general elections. The ceremony was attended by MPT chief prosecutor Thaylise Campos Coleta de Souza Zaffani and TRE‑MT president Justice Serly Marcondes Alves.

The pact establishes joint information exchange, mutual access to the Unified Reporting System (SUD), and coordinated outreach such as training, lectures and public hearings to inform candidates and the public about anti‑harassment rules and the legal minimum working age. It aims to support civil investigations and lawsuits against employers who coerce workers’ votes or employ minors in campaign activities. In 2022, MPT‑MT recorded 119 electoral‑harassment complaints in the state and the agency received 3,370 similar reports nationwide, reflecting a sharp rise since 2018.
