Mato Grosso enacts state registry barring convicted rapists from public office
Law No. 13.463/2026, published on 24 June 2026, creates the Cadastro Estadual de Pessoas Condenadas por Crime de Estupro in the state of Mato Grosso. The registry records individuals whose rape convictions are final and bars them from assuming any public‑service position within the state administration. Data to be collected include name, CPF, birth date, photograph, biometric identifiers such as fingerprints and DNA, and the specific criminal classification. The system will be managed by the Secretaria de Estado de Segurança Pública (Sesp) and made available on its official website. The law, approved by the Assembleia Legislativa de Mato Grosso, also integrates with the federal Cadastro Nacional de Pessoas Condenadas por Crime de Estupro and the Ministry of Justice’s InfoSeg network to support preventive strategies against sexual violence.
