Mato Grosso lawmaker proposes GPS devices for autistic youth safety
Mato Grosso State Deputy Wilson Santos has introduced Bill No. 1.203/2026, which aims to establish guidelines for using electronic location devices to enhance the safety of children and adolescents with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).
The proposal suggests the use of GPS bracelets or other portable electronic equipment with geolocation capabilities to help families quickly locate young people if they become separated from their guardians. The initiative seeks to strengthen public policies focused on the quality of life and security of families affected by ASD.
The bill draws inspiration from a similar program in Marília, São Paulo, where the municipality distributed GPS locator bracelets to support children and adolescents. Local families have expressed support for the measure, noting the difficulties in monitoring children with high-level autism who may wander away unexpectedly.
