Mato Grosso assembly upset over delayed amendments amid party feud

State legislators in Mato Grosso expressed strong dissatisfaction with Governor Otaviano Pivetta’s administration after the executive failed to meet the law‑mandated deadline for paying 50% of parliamentary amendments by the end of the first semester. Deputy Carlos Avellone cited operational and banking problems, including issues with Banco do Brasil, that led to uneven and delayed disbursements, hampering municipalities’ ability to fund health, culture and sports projects. The government plans to release detailed reports on each deputy’s payments and has sought an opinion from the state electoral court (TRE‑MT) to secure legal certainty for future transfers.

At the same time, the internal dynamics of the União Brasil party in the state have grown tense. Deputy federal Fábio Garcia warned that calculations favoring Senator Jayme Campos – who claims support from 35 of the party’s 50 convention delegates – are premature and that the final decision will only be known when the party convention votes. The party is split between the Campos faction, which seeks the senator’s candidacy for governor, and supporters of former governor Mauro Mendes backing a re‑election bid for Governor Otaviano Pivetta. Garcia urged patience, noting that a split could lead to two separate nominations at the convention.
