Goiânia City Council prohibits electricity cuts at health units

The Goiânia City Council has overridden a veto by Mayor Sandro Mabel regarding Project 334/2024. The new law prohibits the interruption of electricity supply to both public and private health units, including clinics, health posts, and emergency care units, regardless of payment status. The legislation also requires utility companies to notify the Municipal Health Secretariat at least five days in advance of any scheduled power interruptions.

Councilman Lucas Kitão, the author of the bill, emphasized that continuous energy is vital for life-saving equipment such as respirators, incubators, and dialysis machines. The law is expected to be promulgated and published in the coming days.

In separate legislative developments, the Mato Grosso Legislative Assembly (ALMT) presented its models for transparency and control of parliamentary amendments in Brasília. Additionally, the ALMT approved 25 bills, including six focused on health policies such as specialized care for primary headaches, free insulin distribution for diabetics, and obstetric physiotherapy protocols.
