Mato Grosso legislators face disputes over pensions and judicial raises

In Mato Grosso, political disputes are emerging regarding social security and judicial salaries. State Deputy Eduardo Botelho refuted claims made by Governor and reelection candidate Otaviano Pivetta regarding the elimination of a 14% social security contribution for retired civil servants and pensioners. While Pivetta stated during a debate that the rate had been abolished, Botelho clarified that the deduction remains in effect, with exemptions applying only to those earning up to three minimum wages.

Separately, the Mato Grosso Legislative Assembly (ALMT) is set to hold a new vote regarding a veto on a 6.8% salary increase for Judiciary employees. Following a decision by the Court of Justice, President Max Russi was notified to schedule a session where lawmakers must cast public, nominal votes. This follows a legal challenge by the Judiciary employees' union (Sinjusmat) against a previous secret ballot used to uphold a veto by former Governor Mauro Mendes, which the court ruled unconstitutional due to transparency requirements.
