Mato Grosso legislature moves forward with public servant mental‑health bill
State deputy Alex Sandro (Republicanos) introduced Project Law 581/2026 in the Mato Grosso Legislative Assembly. The bill sets out guidelines to promote mental health, prevent psychosocial illness and improve work‑life quality for state civil servants across direct, autarchic and foundational bodies.
Key provisions include creating healthier, humanised workplaces, preventing burnout, anxiety, depression and occupational stress, and combating moral harassment and psychological violence. The proposal calls for educational campaigns, suicide‑prevention actions, internal protocols for psychosocial support, training of managers, and partnerships with universities, professional councils and civil‑society groups.
It also establishes an annual State Week of Promotion of Mental Health for Public Servants during the week of 10 October, featuring lectures, seminars, discussion circles and awareness campaigns. Implementation depends on executive competence and budget availability. The draft now awaits further debate after completing five plenary sessions and will be referred to committees for analysis.
The initiative responds to rising absenteeism linked to anxiety, depression and burnout reported by the teachers’ union and other public‑sector bodies in Mato Grosso.
